5Something NewSep 12, 2007

(spoilers ahead)
The newest in the BAA:LA Series although certainly not the last. Alita is not once mentioned in this entire volume. Instead it is the story of Vilma our favorite vampire, who is in fact a fan based character that Yukito has breathed an incredible life into. I for one was not disappointed in this volume at all but saw it as a welcome breath of air for Yukito. Although I am curious for our Heroine, the back story of Earth has been a question since the first chapter of book one. It is now finally answered. Yet more questions linger upon silent tongues.
Most of the Volume is taken up by the battle between Vilma and Victor. Although it was odd in it's own manner it had a good feel and was interesting to see a different style of combat. The last of the book was on fast forward. In my personal opinion, this could have been a mini-series all it's own, or at the very least another entire Volume all to it's own. There is a lot of history handed to the reader in such a short time you may have to read it a couple of times to get a better grip on it. All in All, I loved this volume and wouldn't trade it for the world. I am now forced back into my controlled coma until the next volume hits the shelves.

4An abruct change of pace that works wellDec 24, 2008
By Kid Kyoto
After 17 volumes of cyborg action, Kishiro abructly changes direction with this flashback volume. In a post-apocalyptic world rag-tag humans try to survive against a tribe of vampire. Alita herself barely appears but we learn the history of her world and hey, vampires! Everything is better with vampires.

So it's a bit of a distraction if you're looking for an advancement of the plot but it's a fun diversion and answers some long-standing questions.

5Better than the ones with Alita!Oct 30, 2008
By T. Paukune "sparklyblitz"
The two GN's with Vilma are more emotionally intense and interesting than the rest of the last order series. I was very impressed with this one and Volume 8 as well!

This is one big fight between Vilma (aka Careula, the Vampire Alita fought and defeated later on) and her lover vampire, Victor. It's awesome! And then we get to see the history of Earth, which later becomes the Scrapyard and the badlands in the original BAA series, though the history could have been more expounded on.

Definitely recommended!

4Interestingly OddNov 20, 2007

Vol. 9 of the Last Order series was masterly drawn and well plotted -- as are the other volumes. I have to admit that I really resented the dropping of the character Alita from the recent volumnes but I've gotten over it. Kishiro's excellent drawing and story telling have finally drawn me in to caring about this vampire angle that the series has taken. It's giving a background to the earlier volumnes and by the end of vol 9 we're pretty close to having come full cirlce and (I assume) to picking up the story line of Alita and continuing it. But who knows.

If you've been following the Alita series, vol 9 is a worthy addition.

5AWESOME!!Oct 10, 2007

I love this whole series and I CANNOT wait until the next one. Although this one (vol. 9) feels a little shorter than the previous volumes for some reason....
