The Comic Gets Better with a Nice Mixture of Action, Humor and DramaMay 10, 2012
By Tsuyoshi Now that the cram school is over and a summer vacation begins, Rin Okumura, "the child of Satan," and his friends are allowed to go outside the academy's classroom, which means more action and adventures. The plot thickens in the third volume, where new players arrive. Actually, you have already met these characters, but here they will let us know their true intentions, if not entirely.
The third volume consists of four chapters, all simply titled: "Black Cat," "Tag," "Proof" and "Fun Camp." The first one is about Kuro (meaning "black" in Japanese), a familiar of Father Sugimoto. In the second chapter Rin has his sword stolen by mysterious Amaimon. The third chapter introduces another female character with a secret agenda. The volume ends with a summer forest camp episode, where Rin has to prove his skills as a novice exorcist without using his blue flames.
With fleshed-out characters already introduced in the past volumes, and several episodes (told in flashbacks) about Shiro Fujimoto, a priest who died in the first volume, Volume 3 gets better with more focus on changes that take place within well-drawn characters. As in the two volumes before, the third installment contains several action sequences, which are not too short, not too long, done with a good pace and some humor.
So far "Blue Exorcist" succeeds as an entertaining comic with a well-balanced mixture of action, humor and drama. You will enjoy the third volume, which offers the nice blend again, especially those who like Shiemi, the girl on the comic's front cover.
Once I Opened The Book...Mar 19, 2012
By JaySaint210 ... I couldn't put it down. The storyline of this book is absolutely amazing. Has all the action you can have in a 186 page storyboard. A lot of drama mid way (With a GREAT Twist) into the book, and a cliffhanger to go nuts for...
5.00/5.00: I usually mark 0.25 off the rating because of Word Bubble placement, but there was no confusion in this book. the rating i gave it is the most accurate rating i have given this series; I am looking forward to reading Book 4 of Blue Exorcist when it comes in!!! CAN'T WAIT!
Blue Exorcist Volume 3...Dec 22, 2011

(Originally rated on Goodreads) **Spoilers** Another great volume! Now with more history on the True Cross members, along with an introduction to new characters. I love that Rin gets his own familiar. But now he has to be on his guard dealing with new exorcists and demons. It left off on a bit of a cliffhanger though. How will Rin get out of this situation?
