Description:

A Claymore - a female warrior named for the sword she carries - travels from medieval village to village to destroy Yoma, monsters who disguise themselves as humans and who are almost impossible to kill. Claymores are half-humans, half-demons who willingly transformed themselves by mixing their blood with monster's blood. Claire, nicknamed silver-eyed killer, is such a powerful Claymore, she can slay a Yoma using only one hand. But she must constantly struggle to keep from becoming a monster herself.

5Easy to pick up even for non-manga readers.Aug 28, 2008
By Millotte
I'll be honest here, I never really found myself reading manga or watching anime in the slightest form. But after I was introduced to Claymore, a series that originally captivated me with it's art style has yet to disappoint me. This is actually my first manga series I've ever purchased, I don't I regret it but I instead praise it. Right from the start, excluding the art itself, (from both the anime and the manga may I add) I was immersed in the story and became hooked with the series. If you are new at either anime or manga or simply looking for a new one, give Claymore a try, it's a great story with rich characters that you care for and a plot that is interesting and engaging enough to keep you reading through its volumes. As I have said before, I have not regretted the day that I bumped into the first image of Claymore and after 12 Volumes and 26 episode views later I still don't.

5Episodes 3 and parts of 4, for those following the animeJun 19, 2011

Claymore, Vol. 2 / 9781421506197

I've actually watched the complete Claymore anime first before getting into the manga; when I started deconstructing the incredible anime series on my blog, a kind reader was nice enough to mail me the first five manga volumes as supplemental material. I wasn't sure how closely the anime followed the source material, but so far it's been a very close match, with some extra (and delightful) details available in the manga.

I really love the artwork in this volume -- the drawings are black-and-white, and manage to be very detailed but with a consistently 'clean' simplicity that I find really appealing. The original formatting of the Japanese book was maintained instead of flipped, so you do have to read right-to-left and back-to-front with this volume. The right-to-left reading is a fairly simple adjustment for my eyes (though I do sometimes forget when I drop down a panel), but the back-to-front reading was a bit harder for my hands to get used to -- it's hard to shake years of muscle memory at the drop of a hat, but in this case it's worth it.

Volume 2 provides the following scenes:

Scene 5: Darkness in Paradise, Part 1
Scene 6: Darkness in Paradise, Part 2
Scene 7: Darkness in Paradise, Part 3
Scene 8: Darkness in Paradise, Part 4
Scene 9: Darkness in Paradise, Part 5

For those following along with the anime series, this volume corresponds to:

Episode 3: The Darkness in Paradise (An adaptation of Scene 5, Scene 6, and Scene 7 from the manga.)
Episode 4: Clare's Awakening (An adaptation of Scene 8, Scene 9, and carried over into Volume 3.)

This volume covers the adventures of Clare in the Holy City of Rabona, up to the recovery of her great sword and the start of the battle with the Voracious Eater. If you liked the anime series, I am certain you'll like this manga volume; I recommend it for extra detail and backstory on the Claymores and their organization.

5One of the best of the Claymore chaptersJan 03, 2012

This will be my first Claymore Manga review. I haven't read them all, I have watched the whole anime and then starting reading the manga. Both in the anime and the manga I think this battle is one of my favorites so far, or tied for my favorite (with For Those Who Rend Asunder)these are far from the most intense battles, but I guess I like them for other reasons. In this battle instead of the typical armored Clare we get to see a nice sexy black mini-skirt/ninja Clare. I think it looks a little nicer on the anime...

I liked this one so much I was actually a bit upset when the Teresa arc started, I wanted more Clare! Also the final battle extends into the next book, Vol. 3.

The basics are covered in the other reviews, but I'd like to add some of my personal likes about this volume, but it would be a spoiler so I am going to add the rest as a comment. If you haven't seen the anime or read the manga and don't want any spoilers then don't read it, if you've already read/seen it then feel free to click 'comments' below.

There is also a nice wall scroll I purchased here on amazon that is set in the cathedral in this episode, featuring Clare in black. I recommend it as well. Claymore: Clare Draws Sword Anime Wall Scroll
