A Mesmerizing Cat and Mouse Game with Lives at Stake!Oct 25, 2011
By activeAnime From activeAnime.com
In a desperate gambit to throw L off of his trail, Light has allowed himself and Misa to be interrogated and imprisoned - indefinitely. Nearly two months pass and Light employs his next move from behind bars: lose the Death Note! Without it he loses all of his memories since he first found the book. He now has no memory of being Kira, of his megalomaniac and murderous actions, or the plan he has set in motion.
Containing volumes 5 and 6 of the original manga series, the Black Edition comes in an oversized manga that has striking flat matte black cover and black edged pages. It also includes never before offered colored pages in the first five pages of this edition.
The latest moves in this gripping story are mesmerizing. L takes extreme actions to attempt to flush out Light if he is indeed Kira or Misa the second Kira. The outcome has Misa under surveillance, L completely thrown, and Light now working by L's side 24/7 to find Kira, while attached to L by handcuffs the entire time.
What are most fascinating in these latest volumes are the mental processes, doubts, insecurities and ambitions that emerge from the now amnesiac Light. He does not know he was Kira yet you can see in his thoughts as he tries to help find the murderer that the seeds that created the monster Light has become were there long before he had the Death Note. Meanwhile a new suspect has emerged. The Yotsuba group has shown some curious and grave changes of late. Misa goes undercover to help Light and in so doing learns the truth about herself and the man she's obsessed with.
Now the playing field has indelibly changed in the deadly chess game between Light and L. Light still does not know he is Kira. L suspects it but is thwarted from proving it in part due to Light's own belief and lack of memory as well as Misa, now knowledgeable, making her own moves to protect Light. It's an intriguing game of cat and mouse, particularly when the cat has forgotten his fangs. The latest volume ends in a high speed chase, sniper fire, and the cornering of the current Kira.
IN SUMMARY: A mesmerizing cat and mouse game with the lives of innocent people the cost should L lose to Light's maniacal plotting.
The Best of the Series Yet!Jun 06, 2011
By Nicola Manning Reason for Reading: Next in the series
Wow! This series just keeps getting better and better! The best volume so far. In this omnibus edition volumes 5 and 6 go together so well as they contain a mini story-arc. Both Light and Misa have temporarily given up their notebooks and had their memories erased all as part of Light's master plan to throw L.'s suspicion off of him, while at the same time Misa's book has been turned over to someone else and a group of 8 individuals at a Japanese corporation, knowing one of them, but not which one, is Kira, are using the power to kill off competitors and make their company's stocks and profits rise. That's all I'm going to say about the plot! These two volumes are really heavy on the mind games between L. and Light as they try to capture Kira. L. still believes Light is Kira. Even though Light no longer knows that he is, he has the intelligence to wonder if maybe he might have been and would he behave that way. Light without his power though is more able to ethically make decisions based on right and wrong. A spectacular story with an adrenaline-high race to the end. I could not put this volume down! I can't believe I'm half done the series now.
