Description:

R to L (Japanese Style)

When goofy inventor Senbei Norimaki creates a precocious robot named Arale, his masterpiece turns out to be more than he bargained for!

It's a race to the finish line (and not just figuratively!) in the final volume of Dr. Slump! When Taro graduates from high school, he decides to get a job with the Penguin Village Police Department. But first he'll need to earn his driver's license--and what better test of driving skill could there be than another Penguin Grand Prix? Akira Toriyama hosts the race to send Arale and the gang off with a bang!

4The finale.May 17, 2009
By Peter A. Gauthier "Joe Minotaur"
The ultimate(last) volume in the Dr. Slump series finds the cast enduring once again the authors whims and lack of story ideas. The volume wraps up with a multi chapter 2nd Grand Prix, with the winner taking over as mayor of Penguin village.
It may have been noted in other manga that, during the translation to English, the publishing houses have altered the art and dialogue due to political correctness running amok. This volume has proven to be no exception. An under age drinking/smoking scene was altered to candy cigarettes and soda. In another story, in the original manga, some cast members were put into "Blackface" makeup. For this translation, the art was altered to give the appearance of cat whiskers, ears and noses.
I don't read Japanese, so I can't verify the accuracy of the translation.
Overall I'm pleased that VIZ has published all 18 volumes, but I value faithfulness to the original art/dialogue over PC.
