5A truly great manga seriesJan 07, 2009
By C. R. De Charleroy Jr.
"Kekkaishi" has all the elements that make for a great story, no matter what the genre: characters with very individual personalities, a storyline with an engaging plot and well-planned progression, and plenty of mystery to keep the reader hooked til the end.

The mystery of Karasumori is one of the biggest hooks for me. What exactly is beneath the school? It's very powerful, able to grant any desire apparently. And why did it need to be sealed? Is there even a greater danger than we know?

There is a great deal of progression in the characters as the series goes on, they mature tremendously and must endure some quite crushing blows to their pride and emotions.

The character of Gen Shishio especially is one of the most tragic, yet so intrinsically vital as you will see to how matters proceed in the confrontation with Kokuboro. But I won't spoil what comes next!

This series has me hooked. I've watched the anime version 3 times all the way through now I'm buying every volume of the manga! So much goes on, and yet the delivery and pacing and humor are such that it's always enjoyable to re-read/re-watch time after time.

Try it! You'll like it!
