Nobu and NakaoMay 11, 2009 This volume takes a short break from Risa and Ootani's relationship to focus on another couple, Nobu and Nakao. It's New Year's, but not everyone's enjoying the celebration. Nobu is considering moving to Hokkaido to be with her sick grandmother after high school, but she doesn't want to leave her Nakao behind. Nakao tries his best to be supportive, but he seems to be taking it really hard... Should Nobu stay with her beloved boyfriend, or go with her grandmother who really needs her? Nakao has a tough decision, too- should he support Nobu or beg her to stay? Risa, for her part, wants to help Nobu (especially after all the times Nobu has helped her), but she's not sure how to do that.
We don't get too much focus on Nobu and Nakao's relationship, and I enjoyed seeing more of them. The problem they face is realistic, too. Even though they've planned to stay together, something unexpected happens that may change that. It's a realistic conflict that many couples have to face. It's especially good on Nobu's part because she's the one who will ultimately decide things. Nakahara gives a good picture of what it's like to have to make a tough decision.
The second part of volume 11 gets back to Risa and Ootani. The day of Ootani's entrance exam is approaching, but at the last minute, his entire family comes down with the flu. He ends up spending the night at Risa's house, but with a surprising amount of overnight snowfall, will he even make it to exams?
This part wasn't as good as the first, but Ootani's introduction to Risa's family was funny. Risa's insane determination to get Ootani to his exam site was sweet and funny, too.
In volume 11, "Love Com" continues to look at problems that real couples face. It does so with the perfect balance of drama and humor, which makes it true to life. Not one to be missed.
