5Monster: the most epic manga in existenceNov 15, 2008
By Nanette Zuniga "the vampire cuttlefish"
Naoki Urasawa is a genius. Monster is one of his latest works and is nothing short of amazing. Seriously, it's shocking how good this manga is. It has a suspenseful and intriguing plot unlike any other manga I have ever read. It starts out in Vol. 1 *SPOILERS HERE*with a surgeon named Tenma who saves a boy's life from a bullet wound to the head. The boy grows up to become a murderer and Tenma is the suspect for these murders...and that's only the waaayy beginning. *END SPOILER* His art style is more realistic than other manga art and each character, even background characters are very distinctly drawn. His detail work is amazing. *SLIGHT SPOILERS* In this volume, we see the end of the Grimmer-arc, the reappearance of many side-story characters, and Lunge taking a vacation for the first time in his life. Huge cliffhanger at the end so you'll wanna by Vol. 13 as well. *END SPOILERS* This manga is a very 'heavy' manga and I would recommend it to the mature or adult readers (especially this book). If you're looking for a light, childish, or easy-to-read manga, don't pick up Monster. Also, I would recommend that you read Monster in order. Urasawa is a MASTER of suspense and reading Monster from Vol. 1 is the only way to enjoy this manga fully. Seriously, I LOVE THIS MANGA! FANTASTIC!
