Comic gone wild in my mind...Oct 22, 2011
By Qi I thought the comic book explore theme which was contradictory to the Japanese culture: first of all, the idea of fox-sealed boy with blond hair and no parents is kind of crude; second of all, it went against some of the better teaching of its buddhism culture. The idea there would foxes when most of their temple show to have all "nicer" animals of worship, to invoke this would actually be telling its children would not be worthy of the best. Second of all, buddhism teachings preaches gentle treatment of animals and/or bugs, whether or not you would agree with it, so it went without saying that characters would be able to stand up to bullies was an automatic response. Such is not the case, as its pupils in Naruto's schools is constantly being beaten up in the style of the "Graveyard of the Fireflies." Again, it went to say and if the parents chosen to serve in the military, the female and the hero must die. Personally, I should think some of their writing is a bit chauvinistic and not in any way like the classic Japanese comic and manga. At least not its heyday.
