5Deeper into the Grand LineJan 02, 2007
By Simon
One Piece Volume 13 concludes the gang's confrontation on Whisky Peak with the criminal organization Baroque Works, and sees new faces join the crew: Princess Vivi of Alabasta, and her sidekick-duck Karoo. Their journey continues on to Little Garden, where they are introduced to giants Dorry and Broggy.

This is a pivotal volume, as it sets the stage for the first massive saga of the series. Several key characters are either introduced or hinted at, and the Straw Hats are put on Baroque Works' most wanted list. It also starts the Little Garden story arc, which was one of the many story elements 4Kids cut from their dubbed version. One Piece fans should enjoy seeing the story play out as originally intended.

The overall translation is pretty good, and several key character names (Mr. Bushido, All Sunday, Goldenweek) have been retained from the Japanese version. Viz uses a unique spelling for Elbaf (Elbaph) and Vivi's last name seems to have an extra 'l', but the latter also showed up in some of the video games in Japan. A recommended buy, the next volume comes out in April.

4Assassins and giants and bears, oh my!May 30, 2008

Eiichiro Oda, One Piece: It's All Right (ViZ, 2000)

The crew have found themselves in the middle of their first Grand Line challenge-- a city full of bounty hunters from a secret society. Which is all well and good, except that Zolo and Nami are the only two members of the crew still conscious. And when Luffy wakes up, things get even weirder... Oda keeps things going along at the kind of pace we've come to expect from the series-- fast, faster, and breakneck-- and still seems to be having fun at a point where most series have slacked off badly at least once. Still going strong. ****

5Hard to find book of the seriesFeb 15, 2011
By Joyce M
I bought this book for my son. He has the whole series and loves them. It was hard finding the #13 in book stores but of course, Amazon has it. When in doubt, use Amazon for hard to find items.
