"Hard Travelin' Geek"
The madness at Impel Down kicks into high gear as in the volume it's Luffy Vs Magellan and Luffy is way, way out of his league. It's a fierce battle that foreshadows the odds to come and forces the spotlight one the side characters.
Bon essentially becomes the lead character for a good chunk of the rest of the volume. It's a testament to Oda's writing that letting a side character carry so much of story can not only work but work well. Bon's unwavering determination to succeed against the odds and willingness to give everything for a friend make it impossible not to cheer him on.
Without getting too deeply into spoilers, as things roll around new and important players take the stage, old enemies return to make strange bedfellows and the influence of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" turns up in a big way. Yes, a lot of what we see is set up. But it's set up done well.
I'm got no complaints with this volume. Pick it up and and enjoy.
