Description:

Reads L to R (Western Style)

Ponyo, a female fish, runs away from her home in the sea and ends up stranded on the shore. Sosuke, a five-year-old boy who lives on a cliff, rescues her. He promises to protect Ponyo forever. Ponyo grows very fond of Sosuke, and with the help of her sisters and her father’s magic, she becomes human. This results in a great imbalance in the cosmos, causing great storms and floods and satellites to fall from the sky. Ponyo becomes a fish again and Sosuke promises to love her no matter what form she takes. In the end, when Ponyo kisses Sosuke, she becomes human again.

5Excellent book alternative to filmJan 18, 2010
This book is beautiful and captures the full essence of the film. Less television time, more reading time. The only drawback is the length, as we need to read at least 75 pages at a time to our 3 year old. If only Disney books were this high quality!

5A Must-Have for your Miyazaki CollectionJan 17, 2010
My family and I are huge Miyazaki fans and we own all of his movies. My personal favorites are My Neighbor Totoro and Ponyo. I was disappointed to read that the Ponyo DVD/Blu-Ray won't be released until April or May 2010...way too long for avid fans like myself and our five year-old daughter. I got her this for Christmas and we "savored" reading it over a course of 3-4 nights. The pictures are gorgeous, and it is very thorough and I actually learned a few details from the book that I didn't catch from the film e.g. that the senior citizens' center was being covered by a giant jelly fish and which is why they could breathe underwater. It is such a wonderful book that I am ordering 2 more copies-one to give to a friend and one to keep for prosperity as I felt bad "wrinkling" the pages on such a work of Art. If you enjoyed Ponyo, you really must buy this wonderful book.

5Ponyo picture bookNov 17, 2009
A wonderful book full of beautiful illustrations that any child who has fallen in love with the "Ponyo" film, its main characters and their stories will cherish. The page layouts are fun and easy to follow. The book design falls somewhere in between a young readers chapter book and a japanese manga. Both of my children, 2 and 5 years of age, repeatedly requests that we read them this book which has quickly become one of their favorite bedtime stories. A must-have book if you're a Ghibli Studios fan and if your child loves the "Ponyo" characters and their story.

5A great book for both kids and adults!Nov 05, 2009
I have always loved Hayao Miyazaki's works. Every major character in his movies (picture books) is so cute and lovely. Wild imagination plus great art creation make his movie (picture book) a enjoyable piece that I never want to miss. "Ponyo" did not fail my expectation either. I recommend this picture book to anyone who loves fairy tales.
