4MORE FIGHTINGDec 29, 2006
By Sesho "www.sesho.libsyn.com"
Not everybody in the tournament to win the "Talent of Blank" is a bad guy or girl. Some of the Candidate Champions actually have a good heart like Seiichiro Sano, who can change towels into iron, and wants to win the contest to keep the Talent from evildoers....and also to acquire the Talent to dig so he can open his own hot spring. There's also Li Ho, a mysterious fighter who never uses his superpowers, but instead uses only martial arts skills because he sees that as the only way to get stronger. Just because these people might be admirable or nice doesn't mean that Ueki isn't going to fight them. The only real jerk in this volume is a kid named Adachi, who has an inferiority complex about running. He is really jealous of Ueki's ability to run fast and wants to defeat him and eventually win the Talent of Blank so he can give himself the Talent to Run.

This second volume of The Law of Ueki was more enjoyable than the first, probably because I began to see it as a seperate entity from the anime. It's also pretty funny because of the absolutely ludicrous over the top powers that the Champions exhibit. That's actually what gives this book its own character. You look forward to see which ridiculous power Fukuchi will show next. Ueki is a great character because he never gives up and nonchalantly fights for what is right. He never shows off his power and never brags about his skills. He just takes care of business like a terminator built to defend justice. He's also admirable because even though he might not have an inborn "Talent" for certain abilities, he does his best at whatever is put before him. Ai is cool too for trying to protect Ueki all the time even though she has no powers and could easily get hurt. It's probably not all goodwill though, because you can tell she kinda likes Ueki. All in all, superficial entertainment, but GOOD superficial entertainment.

I would also recommend the manga Mar.
