Bought 1-3 in separate manga editions, but bought this one on the strength of those showings. I'm going to continue with the series and the format because they both deliver.

By setlib After angering the swordsmen of the Yoshioka School in Kyoto, Takezo (now going by the name Miyamoto Musashi) travels to Nara to face Inshun, master of the Hozoin spear technique. Along the way he encounters the monk Takuan, who tries to get him to accept the true nature of his feelings for the lovely Otsu. He also picks up a young disciple and is stalked by an assassin of the Yoshioka school. Several extended sequences detailing the duel between Musashi and Inshun highlight Musashi's strengths and weaknesses as a fighter. He retreats to the mountains to continue training and soul-searching so he will be able to defeat Inshun at their next encounter. This volume also picks up on Matahachi's continuing deceitfulness as he tries to pass himself off under the name of a dead samurai, Sasaki Kojiro.
Amazing historical detail, rousing action, intriguing plot, and complex characterization combine with jaw-dropping artwork to make this an absolutely outstanding manga series. Highly recommended!
