Phew... the time has come for the Pantasia Prelims...Jan 13, 2007
By N. S. Michael The gauntlet has been thrown... the Pantasia Rookie Tourneyment is now underway. First, make bread that won't mold after three weeks! If your bread manages to survive then, and only then, will you truly be deemed worthy of competing as a craftsman of breadmaking.
Azuma is quickly touring the various prefectures of Japan to gain special tools and ingredients for the Rookie cup while Kawachi continues to train to gain the Gauntlets of the Sun. Meanwhile, Tsukino has to deal with family issues... particular a sticky fingered sister doing her best to take everything away (even people) from our favorite South Branch cutie...
A few familiar faces return in this volume including the hyper-critical bread judge Kuroyanagi and super arch-rival Kai Suwabara... and... is that someone familiar under that Panda Mask? That beefy physique is kinda familiar.
ENOUGH EXPOSITION!
The Prelims and First Round run very smoothly, as do the in-between moments typical to shonen-fighto! titles like this that hint at conspiracies, tortured pasts, and past and future characters in mind's eye cameos.
Art is par for the course, but no service whatsoever (*sniff* bring back Azuma's sister!)... ah well.
This is definitely a very silly manga... and also a long haul manga (as this is volume 3 of 23 and still climbing). I like it, but don't expect anything other than cheesy breadmaking fun (as well as a few recipes here and there). A solid Check It Out is my recommend, but only with the previous volumes already in hand.
